About This Spot

Stepping into Simply Fish feels like finding a welcoming harbor on a bustling Costa Mesa street. This cozy seafood nook carries a gentle hum of lively conversation, punctuated by classic tunes drifting softly through the air—each song a quiet nod to another era. It’s the kind of spot where the pace slows just enough for you to lean in, soak up the rich scents of the ocean, and settle into a comforting routine of good food and easy company.

The atmosphere pulses with a casual, neighborhood warmth that invites you to stay a little longer. Whether you’re drawn in on a sunlit afternoon or an evening when the city lights twinkle low beyond the windows, there’s a steady rhythm here—a blend of familiar faces and fresh stories sharing tables over plates that celebrate the sea’s bounty. It’s approachable without pretense, and the kind of place where the friendly voice of the owner is as much a part of the welcoming as the meal itself.

Dining here is an exploration of textures and flavors that tell tales of coastlines near and far. The menu whispers of warm, comforting clam chowders, brilliantly spiced Cajun salmon kissed by smoky char, and playful bites like shrimp taquitos that balance zest with crunch. More than just a meal, with each dish you sense the care stitched into every step—from the perfect crisp of fish & chips to the bright, fresh notes in ahi poke bowls. It’s a space where seafood feels both familiar and exciting, where sharing a sampler platter reveals new favorites alongside old standbys, encouraging conversation and discovery with every forkful.

Simply Fish doesn’t rush you; instead, it encourages you to linger over friendly service, to notice the subtle details—the roll of laughter nearby, the gleam of a perfectly seared crust on a seafood salad, or the clinking of glasses filled with carefully chosen beers. It’s a place that wears its charm quietly, inviting those who visit to feel like part of an ongoing local story.

We went to Simply Fish with friends for dinner on a Sunday evening. This was our third visit to Simply Fish. Each visit, the music was playing, but, in my opinion, it was too loud during dining time. It is my opinion, again, that the music does NOT have to be that loud since the area space of the restaurant is not that big (as stated by other reviewers). We had to literally shout or move close next to the person you were talking to. My understanding is that music is played over the weekend. The overall interior design of the restaurant was nice. Host and server were very efficient and amicable. I had the Sunday special plate, the seafood & entrana platter. It was a huge dish! Lots of seafood with beef atop a bed of rice. I could not eat it all in this one sitting, so I took it home. Very tasty dish! My girlfriend had the grilled swordfish with the brussel sprouts. Our friends shared the Sunday special plate, the seafood & entrana platter.

Very satisfied with our service, food and margaritas. The sampler platter was fantastic as well as the Mahi Mahi fish. Plenty of indoor seating and parking. Clean restrooms and handicap accessible. We will definitely go back.

I was sitting at the hotel and craving some blackened Salmon and thought why not take an hour road trip to Costa Mesa in Orange County CA. This came up as a 4.6 on Google and it looked like something I needed to try and get out on the road and go check it out and see if it would live up to the reviews. Will, the place is small and quaint and the music of Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Elvis is on and I knew it should be a good place to dine. I ordered crab cakes for an appetizer and they were dense and tasty. The Chipotle sauce was so good. I ordered the blackened Salmon with roasted corn and asparagus for my main course and it was cooked perfectly and the taste was so great with no fishy after taste. The salmon was flaky and moist with a hint of the char grill marks which enhanced the overall taste with the garlic butter sauce. The roasted corn was tasty as well and it had the same char taste and the sugars caramelized and gave the sweet taste at the end. The asparagus was crisp and tender and did not need anything because it was really good. This was worth the 2 hour round trip drive from my hotel in Ontario, CA. If you are in the area of Simply Fish, go try it, you will not regret it. Also the staff is so great and friendly!!

What a gem! I wish we had a place like this back home in Arizona. The menu is huge and includes pictures—what you see is exactly what you get. We loved every bite, and the service was excellent.

First time for us… staff is very friendly. Lots of choices on the menu. Good pricing. Quick service. Food was absolutely deelish! Nice to have live entertainment to go along with our meal. Definitely looking to bring friends & family and to try other items on the menu!

I originally went to this wonderful restaurant with our plant club for their holiday luncheon. I was very impressed by the quality of the food, the live music, the ease of splitting our tabs and Derek, the owner’s attentiveness to our group. I’m thrilled our club will again have our holiday luncheon at this great local restaurant. The food is excellent and fresh. This week I took my husband to the restaurant and we enjoyed the Tuesday special. It’s a great local restaurant!
